First of all I have no credits for this pack, I just collect this from osx86 places and put it in one pack with easy descriptions, for better n00b use!
I don't have AMD machine to test it but you can try, since the kernel included in this pack is ready for SSE3 AMD machines.

This is what you have to do:

Replace your kernel with that one from pack
Start terminal:
sudo -s
password: - enter your password
chown -R root:wheel /mach_kernel
chmod -R 755 /mach_kernel

Replace AppleSMBIOS from /System/Library/Extensions with that one from pack
After replace type in terminal:
chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleSMBIOS.kext
chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/AppleSMBIOS.kext
rm -fr /System/Library/Extensions.mkext
diskutil repairPermissions /
reboot

After restart:
Replace PowerManagement.bundle from /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/ with that one from pack
Type in terminal:
sudo -s
password: - enter your password
chmod -R 755 /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/PowerManagement.bundle
chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/PowerManagement.bundle
diskutil repairPermissions /
reboot

*Optional for those who have laptops you have included in this pack SlimBatteryMonitor.app, a powerful and free applications to monitor your battery , just drag it in applications, and 2click on it and set it to run on system starts.

After restart from pack just 2click on speedstep.pkg
Follow the instructions and restart when it ask.

After restart open terminal and type:
sudo -s
password: - enter your password
chown root /Applications/SpeedStep.app/Contents/MacOS/SpeedStep
chmod +s /Applications/SpeedStep.app/Contents/MacOS/SpeedStep

Now go to System Preferences/Accounts click on lock(if it is locked), select Logins Items, and then click on + to add speedstep.app, browse to applications select speedstep.app and click add, and check that box.

Restart and enjoy!

nice guide, I guess the powermanagement.bundle is from iGuru's post which already enabled to indicate battery energy. what more will slimbatterymonitor add to this?

I guess that SpeedStep is nothing to do with the ability to Sleep, or am I wrong?

Doesn't work, Kernel and AppleSMBIOS.kext "would not" start up loginwindow.app.

Unless anyone has gotten this to work. Sorry.

I've gotten this kernel to boot and function, but speedstep is really unstable on my rig, causing random hard lockups and kernel panics. It's a shame too, because my battery life was much improved with the speedstep extension and app running.
Desktop: Homebuilt based on Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3, Core 2 Duo powered
Notebook: Gateway MT6821

Both running BrazilMac 10.5.1 with EFI 4.0 and the stock kernel.

Great guide, followed it to the T but I still can't get speedstep to work... i pin modded my E4500, may that be causing the problem? The error I get is below.

I've gotten everything to work but it causes KP as said above. But once it boots up (most of the time), it's nice.

Guys!
ACPICPUThrottle is still in development...for some of you may work, for some not!
Know limitations:
1. If FSB is not right detected, it will NOT work, try to use latest PC_EFI(v5.2 for ex.)
2. If CPU is overclocked, it will NOT work, until you use fsb and freq from one in superior class(for ex. my Q6600 dosen't work untill i set it to default value)
@sweec Yes it is from iGuru's post, about slimbatterymonitor try it and you will see...
@SU182 You are doing something wrong...I'm pretty sure of that, do you think i write this guide before i try it on at least 3 computers ???
@macgirl Sleep is another functions... which is not covered in this guide..i dunno why people care about this functions, that is the first thing i disable in my rig...
@sa22c Kernel Panics ??? This is new... can you explain more?
@MacLovin modded is equal with overclocked? If yes then that is your problem...

Well, I dont use SpeedStep at all, is the first thing I disable. I like to close the lid an put the laptop on the bag, then when I put back the laptop on the desk the first thing I want is to open the lid and start working, no boot time, that's how my PowerBook works.

I really had no use for SpeedStep, my laptop is connected most of the time.

Also my Destop PC I prefer to have sproper sleep than CoolAndQuiet.

In the benchmarks I did I didn't like the performance with SpeedStep on Auto Mode, so I prefer full speed anytime.
