HOW TO uninstall if you used the installer

Postby coolbits on Tue Aug 29, 2006 6:46 am

If you installed with installer and it doesnt work even after inserting "Graphics Mode"="1024x768x32@60" once at boot and you want to uninstall... then read this...

Print out this guide to use it in single user mode...

Basicaly osx needs IONDRVSupport.kext or MacVidia drivers in extensions folder to show screen...

If you used the installer then IONDRVSupport.kext is located in /NVBackup folder...

So boot in single user mode (-s at boot... that works without drivers)
when in single user you must first mount filesystem read/write with
Code: Select all
mount -uw /

then first copy IONDRVSupport.kext back to extensions with command

Code: Select all
cp -R /NVBackup/IONDRVSupport.kext /System/Library/Extensions/

if you didnt use the installer just replace the path to your IONDRVSupport.kext like this

Code: Select all
cp -R /Your/path/to/IONDRVSupport.kext /System/Library/Extensions/

then remove Macvidia drivers with

Code: Select all
rm -R /System/Library/Extensions/NVDriver.kext

rm -R /System/Library/Extensions/NVidia.kext

remove kextcache with
Code: Select all
rm /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache

rm /System/Library/Extensions.mkext

then repair permissions to be sure with

Code: Select all
diskutil repairpermissions /

This way you get basic Apple framebuffer driver back to work without reinstalling the system and you delete MacVidia drivers...
Reboot

Cos you or maybe not you but most of them would still need instructions on how to start .sh script...

And this way some can learn basic commands, cos they will always need them in hackintosh...

thanks coolbits. I was going to try that yesterday but my IONDRVSupport.kext didn't exist in that folder... I must have deleted it using manual install before trying your installer DOH. I searched the hard drive but found nothing. I'll be googling it... maybe I can download it from somewhere. Also, I'll try the installation DVD. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks.
